Worship

We gather together in worship every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.

Our worship services at St. Peter follow the orders of service as they are found in Lutheran Service Book.

We are a liturgical church. The term “liturgy” brings to mind different things for different people, but the liturgy is simply what Jesus does for His people when He gathers them together. As such, our worship services are not ours to make-up or put into our own words. Instead, our worship services are filled with God’s Word as every part of the liturgy is drawn directly from Holy Scripture. This reminds us that worship is about Jesus coming to us to give us His gifts.

We are also a sacramental church. We gather together as baptized children of God, recognizing how baptism has made us heirs of this great heritage. Throughout our worship, there are constant reminders of what God has done for us through Holy Baptism. As His baptized children, we likewise have the great joy of celebrating the Lord’s Supper, wherein we receive the very body and blood of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins. These sacraments are vital to who we are as Christians and they are seen throughout the liturgy.

Finally, we are a singing church. Our hymnody consists of those hymns in Lutheran Service Book, which range from hymns written in the earliest centuries after the resurrection to hymns written in the last few years. No matter the year it was written, our hymns always focus on Christ and what He does for us. Our hymns make extensive use of Holy Scripture, so what we sing is not simply man’s word, but God’s Word. In this way, the focus of our singing is on the words which we sing as God’s Word continues to teach us even in song.
